Abstract

The transmissible venereal tumor is a neoplasm that affects dogs of all races and ages, mainly affecting the genital region, where it presents fetid lesions with a “cauliflower” aspect. For the diagnosis, it is necessary to evaluate the clinical signs, as well as the details of the anamnesis. Confirmation is through cytopathological and histopathological examination, where they are classified according to the cellular pattern presented. Treatment is with cytotoxic chemotherapy, mainly vincristine sulfate, until complete regression of the lesion. The present study aimed to gather data regarding positive cases of transmissible venereal tumor during the years 2016 to 2021 attended at the Roque Quagliato Veterinary Hospital. From the information obtained in relation to sex, breed, age, cell pattern and chemotherapy sessions of 17 animals, the treated and positive cases were compared with the available literature, resulting in a retrospective study. It was concluded that of the 17 patiets, the most affected were mixed breed animals, with no sexual predisposition. In addition, the cellular predominance among all lesions was of plasmacytoid pattern, forming genital lesions.
