Abstract

Feline lower urinary tract diseases (FLUTD), such as feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) and urethral obstruction, are frequently observed in clinical routine. Currently, stress is indicated as one of the factors that predispose cats to such alterations. The objective of this work was to perform a survey of FIC and urethral obstruction cases in felines treated at the Roque Quagliato Veterinary Hospital of Ourinhos-SP, from January 2020 to October 2022, in order to identify which of the pathologies has the highest prevalence, as well as, if there is sexual predilection and age group, the clinical signs and the relationship of animals that are neutered and have or do not have access to the street. Thirty-five animals were selected, most of the animals were diagnosed with urethral obstruction secondary to FIC. Both pathologies affected more males, castrated and who had access to the street. The main clinical sign observed was dysuria, followed by anuria, pollakiuria and hematuria. Only three animals required surgical intervention. Aware that obstructive cases commonly have idiopathic origin, felines require an investigation beyond the lower urinary tract (LUT), considering stressful factors and management errors as the main triggering sources.
