Abstract

Ultrasound examination of the chest allows obtaining images in real time of patients with the most diverse alterations. It provides information on the location, size, extent and nature of the lesions, assisting in the performance of thoracentesis, fine needle cytology and biopsy of fragments. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the importance of ultrasound-guided fine needle cytology in helping different pulmonary pathologies in three patients with different pathologies treated at the Hospital Veterinário Roque Quagliato. For this study, three patients who underwent fine-needle cytology with diagnoses of pneumonia, bronchoalveolar carcinoma and lymphoma were selected. We conclude that radiographic and ultrasound examinations of lung lesions are not specific and the use of lung ultrasound allows guiding the collection of cytological samples and differentiating inflammatory lesions from neoplastic lesions.
