Abstract
Mycoplasmosis is caused by a bacterium of the genus mycoplasma spp., belonging to the family Mycoplasmataceae, being poorly diagnosed because it is not considered a primary disease. The aim of this study was to report a case of mycoplasmosis in a female dog attended at the Roque Quagliato Veterinary Hospital – Unifio, being the first report in the municipality of Ourinhos-SP. The bitch arrived with neoformation, emesis and apathy, laboratory tests such as blood count and biochemical were performed, finding severe and persistent anemia with signs of regeneration and alterations suggestive of hemolysis, and PCR was requested with positive result for Mycoplasma spp. Blood transfusion was performed and doxycycline treatment 6.7 mg/kg SID was started for 28 days and gaviz 0.8 mg/kg SID for 28 days. The animal returned four days after transfusion and still had severe anemia, so the owner chose not to transfuse it again. Prednisolone 2 mg/kg was prescribed and it returned home, coming to death days later. It is concluded that the first report of infection by Mycoplasma spp. in a dog diagnosed in the region of Ourinhos-SP was characterized by the presence of comorbidities, nonspecific clinical signs and blood count showing signs of hemolysis, and PCR was necessary to confirm the infection.
